Illuvium
In Illuvium, players explore an open world filled with sci-fi and fantasy elements. As they travel from place to place, they battle and capture creatures called Illuvials, which they can then add to their team. The game has a strong emphasis on storytelling and offers players the freedom to make their own choices as they progress.
Illuvium combines elements of role-playing games that involve collecting and building a team with the combat mechanics of the popular Auto Battler genre. This makes it accessible to players of all skill levels and allows them to play for as long or as short a time as they want. The key to success in the game is to create a team that is well-rounded and strategically sound.
What are Illuvials?
In Illuvium, Illuvials are mysterious and powerful creatures that live on a broken planet. They are able to evolve and gain new abilities over time, and each one has a special connection to certain elements in the world. This means that they are stronger in some situations than in others.
As a player, you can build a more effective team by adding Illuvials that complement the strengths of the ones you already have. The full extent of the Illuvials’ abilities and nature is not yet known.
Some Illuvials are more difficult to find and capture than others. The rarity of an Illuvial is loosely tied to its power, with the rarest ones being the most powerful. If you manage to defeat an Illuvial in battle, you can collect it as a Shard that is stored on the blockchain.
If you don’t have much time to play, you can still build a strong team by purchasing Illuvials from other players on the Exchange. Keep an eye out for rare Shiny, Gold, or Holographic Illuvials, as these are even more valuable and less common than others.
Gameplay
One of the key features that sets Illuvium apart from other RPGs is its combat system, which is not turn-based. Instead, each battle is an “auto battle” in which the player selects and positions their Illuvials in order to counter their opponent.
This means that it is important for players to carefully choose Illuvials that work well together and are strong against their opponent’s team. This strategic element adds an extra layer of depth to the game and encourages players to think carefully about their choices.
Synergies
The two most important attributes of an Illuvial in Illuvium are its Affinity and Class. There are five base Affinities and five base Classes in the game, and stronger Illuvials may possess multiple Affinities or Classes, which allows for a wide range of team compositions.
Players are rewarded for selecting Illuvials with the same Affinity or Class, as this grants unique bonuses in battle. The more Illuvials with the same Affinity or Class that are on the battlefield, the stronger the bonus will be. This encourages players to carefully consider their choices and build teams with complementary abilities.
Affinity
Illuvium has five basic Affinities: Water, Earth, Fire, Nature, and Air. The amount of damage that an Illuvial deals or takes in battle depends on the Affinities of both it and its enemy. For example, a Fire Illuvial will deal extra damage to a Nature Illuvial but will take more damage from a Water Illuvial.
This means that it is important for players to consider the Affinities of their opponent’s Illuvials and choose their own team accordingly, as sometimes the best strategy is not to simply use the most powerful Illuvials.
Class
Illuvium has five basic Classes: Fighter, Guardian, Rogue, Psion, and Empath, which are similar to traditional RPG classes. Each Class has its own unique abilities and strengths, so a team of Guardians will be able to withstand a lot of damage, while a team of Rogues might be able to outmaneuver and defeat their opponents quickly.
This adds another layer of strategy to the game, as players must consider the Class of their Illuvials and the Classes of their opponent’s Illuvials in order to build an effective team.
Combat
In Illuvium, battles take place automatically, with each Illuvial selecting an enemy target and attacking it. As the battle progresses, Illuvials gain energy through their attacks and damage dealt. Once they reach a certain threshold, they can unleash a special Ultimate Ability that can have a major impact on the outcome of the battle.
These abilities can do extra damage, boost allies or themselves, hinder enemies, or even throw enemies around the battlefield. The battle ends when one team has been defeated.
Capture
In Illuvium’s adventure mode, players can capture defeated Illuvials by using Shards. These Shards have different levels of capture power, which, combined with the power of the Illuvial, determines the likelihood of a successful capture.
If the capture is successful, the Illuvial will be added to the player’s collection. If it fails, there is a chance that the Illuvial will flee. When exploring the most challenging areas of the game, it is advisable to bring powerful Shards, as weaker ones may not be effective.
